Parkersburg, West Virginia

Channing L. Smith, 46, of Parkersburg, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2025, after an extended illness at Camden Clark Medical Center with his family by his side.

He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a son of Robert “Bob” Layne Smith and the late Teresa Jean Young James.

His memory will be carried in the hearts of those who loved him dearly, including his father, Bob Smith and bonus mom, Brenda Hurst; daughter, Kiliegh Batton; siblings, Kandi Dent (Mitch), David Hurst (Amber), Chauncy James, Carissa Buskirk (Jason), and Chelsea Lafferty (Devin); several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; aunt, Donna Young; uncle, Billy Young; significant other, Cayla Wright; and a host of other family members and friends.

In addition to his mother, Channing was preceded in death by his step-father, Jesse James; paternal grandparents, Gene and Christeen Smith; maternal grandparents, Bob and Maggie Young; uncles, Roger Smith and Bobby Young; and beloved niece, Kira James.

Channing loved people and would light up a room with his captivating personality, storytelling, and funny antics. He was a gypsy at heart and had a creative nature, enjoying drawing and music.

A funeral service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street, Parkersburg, West Virginia. A visitation of family and friends will be held 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
