Lucy M. Cottrill

Lucy Mae Metz Cottrill, 101, of Parkersburg, W.Va. died Wednesday, May 11, 2016. She was born May 9, 1915 near Cairo, Ritchie County, W.Va. to the late Elias Ellsworth "Elzie" Metz and Lora Rinehart Metz . In 1935, she began working at the American Viscose Corporation in Parkersburg and soon married the late Paul Kenneth Cottrill, a Ritchie County school teacher and later, a Wood County school principal.Lucy spent most of her life as a homemaker.She was an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress. Lucy was the mother of two children:Dr. Phillip Cottrill (Sue Shaver) of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Judith Cottrill Smith (Norman) of Parkersburg.She is also survived by two grandsons:Jon Cottrill (Cheryl dePue) and Patrick Cottrill (Carrie NeSmith), all of North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Wesley, Drew, Matthew, Aaron, Athena and David; and two brothers, David Metz (Rose) of Parkersburg and Ralph Metz (Roxie)of Ravenswood, W.Va. In addition to her parents and husband, Lucy was preceded in death by two brothers, George Metz and Carl Metz; and four sisters, Goldie Toothman, Della Williamson, Lorene Reed and Ora Dunlevy. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg.The Reverend Michael R. Seely from First Presbyterian Church will officiate and interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Ellenboro, W.Va.The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
