Preston Michael Hodgson, 14, of Parkersburg, WV, born September 22, 2011, passed away unexpectedly July 22, 2026.
Preston was a loving, smart, and vivacious young man. He was an amazing son, big brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. We all know Preston lived for the game of basketball, and his talents on the court showed his true dedication to the sport. He handled the ball the same way he handled the love he had for his family and friends, with precision, dedication, love, and grace. His talent was undeniable, to the point he had professional scouts watching him throughout his school years.
We are sure Preston is up in Heaven giving Kobe “The Mamba” Bryant the business on the holy basketball court!
Those left to cherish his memory are his amazing, loving, and devoted parents, mother/best friend, Ciara Hodgson and father, Davon Fields; sisters, Aniyah Fields and Isabella Moore; brothers, Shade Hodgson and Tru’Leon Hodgson; grandmothers, Lisa “#1 Nana” Franco and Dawn Fields; paternal great grandfather, Wayne “Tarzan” Nelson; aunt, Jesse Lamm (Derek); uncles, Brandon Franco (Mykala) and Jerry Shelton; a very special cousin, Daisha Lamm; special friend Preston looked up to, Mason Ross; best friend, Kayden Wires; a host of great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly; and his loyal companion, his dog Gunner, whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents Charles and Fairy Foster; and paternal great grandmother, Elizabeth Fields – Nelson.
Preston is extremely loved and missed by everyone. We appreciate all the love and support, prayers, calls, texts, emails, and donations in his honor. It just goes to show the impact Preston had on his family, friends, and community. His legacy has become well known and will continue to carry on through those he left behind. Preston’s entire family is extremely grateful for each and every one of you.
Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home with Coach Jordan Thornhill officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time. Burial will follow at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest.
