Ruby Helen Oates

Ruby Helen Oates, 98, of Parkersburg, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg.

She was born on June 7, 1924, in Walker, West Virginia, a daughter of the late William and Goldie Leep Patterson.

Ruby worked as a nurse’s assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 30 years before retiring.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter-in-law, Connie Oates; grandson, Dr. Gary E. Oates, Jr. (Kaela); and great-grandchildren, Carter and Emily.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Joseph “Bill” Oates; son, Gary E. Oates, Sr.; infant daughter, Judy Oates; infant grandson; brother, Okey Patterson and sisters, Isabelle Ridgeway and Bernadine Scullin.

Ruby had prearranged her final requests and in honoring her wishes, there will be no public visitation or service.

A private graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Evergreen South Cemetery with Michael Kidd officiating.
